Traditional Yoga and Meditation

Yoga Palmeira provides classes for all levels, and one to one private instruction in traditional Yoga and Meditation.

Yoga helps to improve quality of life by cultivating the mind, body and breath. Here I will teach you Yoga techniques as taught to me at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy and Yogic exercises as taught by Bishnu Ghosh and Bikram Choudhury.

Yoga is for everyone. Yoga is not about being athletic and flexible. Yoga is about reconnecting to yourself and learning to cultivate more energy in the body for a more centred and focused mind. It is a lifetime practice. Everyone can practice Yoga.

All sessions include Asana, Meditation, Pranayama, and Mantra.

"Yoga is a way to self-discovery and, for many people, is a physical, mental and spiritual aid.
Yoga is therefore therapeutic." - Gouri Shankar Mukerji

About Ted

As of 2023 I have been teaching Yoga for almost ten years and practiced for over twenty. I certified as a Bikram Yoga teacher in 2014, and have completed both intermediate and advanced Yoga trainings with the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Academy.

My first experience of Yoga was a such a transformative experience, that it quickly became a way of life that allowed me to understand my inner self and connect with an open heart to others.

Physical and mental well being were the initial improvements, but over time I began to have an awareness of my place in the world, and a growing understanding about the connections we all make with each other through our thoughts and actions.

My teaching style is one that is very calm and steady, with a focus on self awareness and awakening positive energy.

Whether it is teaching a class or an individual, it is my hope that I have helped someone to re-connect and feel more aligned and uplifted. That they have gained some new awareness or inspiration to feel more free. Physically, mentally, and spiritually.

I invite you to get in touch for a class or a one to one session, and begin your own transformation through Yoga practice.

TYPES OF CLASSES

Traditional Hatha Yoga

A classic series of Hatha Yoga, based on the Sivananda series, this meditative class includes Mantra, Pranayama breathing, Asanas, and a guided relaxation. This class cultivates positive energy, yet is relaxing, with a focus on meditation moving steadily and holding postures. The beginners class I provide detailed instruction to give you a foundation to move on to the intermediate class. The intermediate level is the full Sivananda series, with variations dependent on each practitioner. Advanced variations given according to ability.

Strength and Balance Hatha

A classic series of Hatha Yoga based on the Bikram 26&2 series. This active and assertive class is energetic and helps to develop balance, strength and cultivates great energy. Designed by Bikram Choudhury, this class is normally practiced in the heat, but is a fantastic workout out of the heat also. Suitable for all levels, it is great for beginners and will leave you wanting more!

Gentle / Functional Movement

This 75 minute class is ideal for all ages, and moves gently through a series of postures to support good alignment and revitalise the mind and body. Postures are not held for long, and we focus on breathing techniques, proper movement of the spine, and a guided relaxation. Perfect for those with a limited mobility or injuries.

Energetic flow and Nidra

This class will begin with a pranayama, followed by a steady sun salutation series with variations, focused asanas and a relaxing Nidra session. You will leave feeling energised and relaxed.

Breathe to Relax

This class will focus primarily on traditional Pranayama breathing techniques designed to heighten awareness and encourage a focused meditation practice. The session includes some flow exercises, Pranayama, and a 15-20 minute guided or silent meditation to help settle the mind. A regular meditation practice is a perfect way to meet the day calm and focused.

Preparing for an online class

Attending an online class poses some challenges, but with a few preparations, you'll be well on your way.

  • What equipment do I need?

Your need a laptop or phone with internet connection, speaker and camera, along with a mat. The classes use ZOOM.

  • How much room do I need?

Set yourself up with enough space that I can see you, and make sure there is good sound on your system to hear the instructions properly. If bandwidth is low, you can turn off the video and rely mostly on audio cues.

  • Where should I do the class?

Be sure to be in a room that you won't be disturbed, pets and kids are lovely to have around, but often do their best to steal your attention while you're trying to focus!

  • What environment should it be?

Set up your space relatively uncluttered to maintain a calm serenity in your practice.

  • Should I eat and drink before?

It is best to practice on an empty stomach.

  • What do i need to do if attending the studio?

You'll have to bring your own mat, and if you show any symptoms, please stay home and rest. Sanitizer spray and facilities are provided.
