Traditional Yoga - LIVE ONLINE CLASSES

Over the past several years, many of you have attended regular classes with me in either Palmeira square or at Yoga in the Lanes to practice traditional Hatha Yoga. Recent self isolation restrictions means I cannot continue group classes, however starting Tuesday 24th March I'll be starting daily classes online that you can join using the application Zoom.

I know online classes have their limitations, (particularly for Hot Yoga lovers) however in these very difficult times, it is especially important to carry on with your practice, to maintain good physical and mental health. Online classes allow you to practice my guided class from home, along with others practicing at the same time in their space. They also encourage you to kickstart a home self practice.

I will be offering daily classes Monday to Friday, and I will teach both the traditional 26&2 series (Bikram), the Sivananda Hatha Open Class, and also a beginners class for those totally new to Yoga.

Classes are £5 each, or by donation if you have been adversely affected by the current lockdown.

Class Descriptions

Traditional 26&2
Originating from West Bengal, this class consists of a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing excercises suitable for beginners, but challenging for all. This class will improve your strength and flexibility while increasing energy and vitality. Normally done in a hot room, the online class will be altered slightly to compensate for this. The class will be 75 minutes and will leave you feeling energised and revitalised.

Sivananda Open Class
A classic series of Hatha Yoga, this meditative class includes Mantra, Pranayama breathing, Asanas, and a guided relaxation. This 90 minute class is energetic yet relaxing, with a focus on meditation and therapeutic postures. As the class is online, it is more of a guided practice and some experience of Yoga is recommended.

Beginners Class
This weekly session will take a slow pace, and introduce you to a foundation of principles that will allow you to build a regular Yoga practice. Elements like proper breathing, proper technique and alignment in postures will be carefully examined in aim of working towards the Sivananda Open Class, or any other Vinyasa, or Hatha class you may find yourself in.

About Me

My name is Ted Davis, I was born in 1971, I came to Yoga at the age of 30, and immediately found that a regular Yoga practice helped to alleviate many sufferings such as fear, anxiety, depression, lethargy and tiredness. I found that regular practice of Yoga Asana quickly proved itself to be a road to a more healthy and natural lifestyle. In my practice, l still find the benefits of Yoga to be many, as I continue to transform physically, mentally, and spiritually with each moment of practice.

As a Yoga Instructor, I completed the 500 hour Hatha Yoga training with Bikram Choudhury, and later completed the 4 week TTC course at the Sivananda Vedanta center in Quebec Canada. I feel lucky and blessed that it is my Dharma to share and teach Yogic techniques as I have learned from the Sivananda and Bishnu Ghosh tradition.

I invite you to join in some classes, and begin your own transformation through Yoga practice.

Preparing for an online class

Attending an online class poses some challenges, but with a few preparations, you'll be well on your way.

  • What equipment do I need?

Your need a laptop or phone with internet connection, speaker and camera, along with a mat. The classes use ZOOM.

  • How much room do I need?

Set yourself up with enough space that I can see you, and make sure there is good sound on your system to hear the instructions properly. If bandwidth is low, you can turn off the video and rely mostly on audio cues.

  • Where should I do the class?

Be sure to be in a room that you won't be disturbed, pets and kids are lovely to have around, but often do their best to steal your attention while you're trying to focus!

  • What environment should it be?

Set up your space relatively uncluttered to maintain a calm serenity in your practice.

  • Should I eat and drink before?

It is best to practice on an empty stomach.

“Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness, Yoga shows the way.”
